The Truth About Successful Network Marketing

By Richard J. Norris

Successful network marketing is not about your company having the best product on the market, nor is it about your company having the best pay plan. Don't get me wrong, I would never join a company that didn't offer both excellent, consumable products and a pay plan that offers the opportunity to build a substantial residual income. But, in the case of both of the network marketing endeavors that I have been involved, I joined because of the relationship I felt with the person who sponsored me, and you need to realize that will be the case with you as your business is built.

Many networkers get tied up in knots over knowing and selling the products and touting the pay plan that they forget that no one will join your business unless they are sold on you first. People come looking for a home business for specific reasons; extra money, time with family, to supplemental retirement and a host of other needs. Your job as a network marketer is first and foremost to identify that need and then help your prospect map out a way to fill that need using your business model as the vehicle to get there. Don't become so concerned with the information on the products and pay plan that you forget why they sought out information to begin with. You should have genuine concern for how you, as their potential sponsor, can support them in reaching their goal of meeting the need they have. Your job is to build rapport with the prospect and emphasize that you will be there to train them, support their efforts to build a business and offer tips on how they can use your company to get where they wish to be, with your assistance every step of the journey. Concentrate on the people side of the business first, as it is you they join and not your company.  If you're not solving the problems of people who come to you with an interest in building a business, then you simply won't be successful in network marketing.

One of the things that has always excited me about the network marketing model is the aspect of teamwork that permeates the stories of those that have become the most successful. Everyone comes to network marketing with different backgrounds and skill sets, and the most successful organizations within network marketing companies are the ones that find a way to utilize that vast array of talents for the benefit of the team that has been built. It's truly people helping people become successful. And, this is the attitude that must start from the very beginning with the network marketer and their prospect.
